You CAN Make Money as a Furniture Artist - Here's How!
Thank you. ❤❤❤
Hello! I have three questions for you.........First, can I ask what wax you used to seal it? I am undergoing my first project with both chalk paint and Country Chic paint. I have Brixwax original Clear wax that I bought to use over the wood portions of my hutch, but I have had mixed answers when asking if Briwax original clear can be used over chalk paint. Second, I followed someone else's instructions and diluted the paint (4 oz size) with 2 teaspoons of water. Was this necessary? 3) Can I use a foam roller brush for the second coat to ensure a good final finish? Thank you - I really really enjoyed your video!
Great video! LOVE your videos. Question - do I need to use a special paint as the base or is regular latex paint like Benjamin moore ok? THANK YOU!!!
What did it look like before the primer? Was it veneer? What if it’s solid wood? The look would be the same? I just got a dresser today and I want to mentally prepare myself and have somewhat of a clue before I mess it up 😂. Thank you for reading my message when you have a chance ❤
It looks so good!
Does it have to be oil based?
I love it ❤
Can this be done to stair treads? If so, do you know what the wear and tear is for the stairs and the stain? Is this stain pretty durable for foot traffic? Thank you. :)
Beginner here. It was nice to see that you didnt have to filter the paint nor water it down. Is that because of the sprayer you are using or because of the quality of the paint?
I subscribed to your channel because you are an excellent professional explaining. I feel like you’re a student. Thank you!! But I need you to make a video painting a fabric or faux leather sofa, please. Waited For You ❤
Hi! Love your videos! Was wondering, do you still recommend this sprayer? I am in the process of refinishing a table and realized with all the spindles in the chairs a paint brush isn’t going to work. I’ve been putting on a primer and it’s just a drippy mess that I can’t make look good with a brush. I was looking at this particular sprayer versus the siphon ones. Thank you so much!
Hi, great video. May I ask what base you used? I want to use a dark green for my island, and wondered what base you used? Secondly, did you have to thin out the paint or dilute it when you used your sprayer? I notice some people say to dilute or thin prior to using sprayer because it’s thick, Just wondered if you thinned it out. I love your piece, great job
I didn’t use a base - if you mean a primer/base. I didn’t use one on this job - not all jobs require a primer - if cleaned well and scuff sanded (prime when concerned about bleed through or adhesion) I always thin my paint and each product will vary as to how much as well as the equipment your using - I suggest getting a viscosity cup and referring to your sprayer manual for timing. This paint is not particularly thick (that will also vary depending on color - some pigments in colors will make the paint thinner or thicker). Thank you so much 😀
@@BorninaBarnBoutique thanks so much for the info 👍🌹
What tip/needle did you use and what setting was your sprayer on?
I use the standard tip - I do not typically feel the need to switch them out for water based paints. As for the setting this particular system does not have a numbered setting system - so I couldn’t tell you how it was dialed in - I switch that up depending on the product and piece I’m working on but there is no way for me to tell you a setting number on this one 😀
Love the video. Thanks for sharing! Quick question - if I wanted a darker colour would I be just leaving it without wiping? Or would I need to wipe and apply multiple coats, until I get the desired result? Thank you.
Thank you - I would definitely wipe back or you may not like the look and it will take forever to dry. I would Layer multiple coats (making sure you allow ample time in between)
@@BorninaBarnBoutique Awesome.. Thank you so much for your response.
Great informative video. Thank you!
I have missed your videos. So glad you are back.
Thank you! 😀
They look SO much better!! 😍🙌🎉
That turned out beautifully!! Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Thank you so much!😀
Cheap fix for a cheap piece of poorly constructed furniture.
You do realize that most pieces are not made of 100% solid wood through and through. This is a Bassett brand piece (which is a good brand) - but most pieces have some wood veneer and particle board in certain areas of the furniture unfortunately
Your work is beautiful Amy. I love your tutorials 🇬🇧🤗
Does it dry down all the way or does it need to be cured ?
So most every product paint, stain and topcoat have a dry time and a cure time. This product depending on your climate dries down within 8 hours for re-coating. Cure time for this particular product is a 10 day cure time 😀
Gorgeous piece! Did I miss some of it though? You went from spraying your favorite primer to painting it then voila! The piece was finished! What paint was used (color and brand)? Did you spray it on and if yes, can a gal like me who doesn’t own a sprayer use a brush method instead of spraying? If yes on that, what brush do you recommend? And last but not least, how did you finish the top (with what product, etc). The piece itself is exquisite and you and your videos are always a pleasure to watch. Looking forward to your reply if you have a moment. Oh how I wish I lived near you if you taught classes. Your work is second to none.
Thank you! No you didn’t miss anything. This video was to showcase the repair not the paint process - so there was just a quick segment showing me applying the primer and then there is a segment showing me spray the paint. The painting part was not a focus on this video. I did spray it on (quick segment showing me with the spray gun) 😀 you can absolutely brush and I have many recs for brushes (zibra, staalmeester and cling on brushes are my favs). I also always list out what was used with links too in the show notes/description. Everything is listed there from the paint color to the stains used too. 😀 thank you so much for watching and the nice comments.
What kind of sander are you using that’s hooked up to a vacuum hose? Thank you 😊
Hi! That is my festool ETS-EC 125 orbital sander connected to my festool hepa dust extractor/vac system - love them! amzn.to/3RpHnWU
Can I do that over a painted top?
you can but its meant to be like a stain and showcase the wood grain - it is very sheer :)
Which colors did you use on the top ?
I always out all the products in the description below 😀 I used wooden barrel and natural cork
I would love to see a video of you doing the pottery barn look with the gel stains.
I used this on a cabinet. I put on three coats and it is streaky. How do I fix that? HELP!
I personally don’t care for this paint - after the video a few years ago I chose to not use again. Streaky can come from the product, the brush and how you may be applying. My rec: try a different paint 😀
Thanks for the great video. Can I apply this glaze (and the mineral spirits) to a piece that is painted with latex paint?
You are welcome - I haven’t tried that - I’m not sure how the products will work together - I would suggest trying a test area before going g all in
i don't know about wood, but i do like the bgm.
Too much work for the furniture I need to stain to look like a nice wood. However, this video was still very good - so thorough & clear.
You are such a likeable person 😊
Thank you! 😀
I have a white painted dresser with stains and nics on top of it. Is it necessary to re-paint it white first, then use this stain over it? Or can I just use the stain on it to cover up the blemishes and small scratches it has on it?
I would suggest a fresh coat of paint the stain won’t cover the blemishes or scratches as it’s sheer
Can you put this on raw wood and wipe off also? Will it stay in the wood grain?
Yes absolutely
What products and brand and does Home Depot or ace sell them ?
These are the Lilly Moon Paint Gel Stains - you cannot get them at a big box retailer - you can order online or search for a retailer near you on their website -
Thanks for going over the sander. Do you have any videos of how to organize a work station like you have?
You are welcome! I do not and I have since moved into a new space - I have a new barn that I work out of - I will put that on the list of videos to do 😀
Would this be suitable for stairs? Would it be slippery? We have mdf stairs
You could yes and if you grain it - it will help with the slippery factor - check out their website - some amazing projects done with the Retique It products
Perfect timing! I just ead looking up thos method early today. Starteya project and s bit put off by the finishing technique! You seemed to just go gor it! I like that! Thank you!
Yes just go for it! Sometimes that is the only way! 😀
I have heard around this video there was a new formula created and I wonder if you may have used the older formula as this is an older video. It would be fun to see a new video comparing the two. Who knows maybe you would love it now!
Yes there is a great idea for another video! Thank you 😀
I have a table with WhT I assume is laminate on the top and edges of the table top. There are some spots that have laminate missing, how should I fill in those spots?
Best bet is a Wood Filler Bondo - super strong and sandable - once painted you will never see the spots
Thanks. That will help me today with a project.
Do you need a polyurethane seal over it for a tabletop?
No this product has a durable built in topcoat - that is the finishing oil part of the product
If I have an espresso (almost black) looking dresser but I want it more of a dark brown, would one coat be enough?
I would test a section- since it’s a stain it is sheer but is buildable
@@BorninaBarnBoutiqueI think I am going to try this. I also have an espresso piece that I want lighter. However, I don't want to sand it since it is textured.
Loved this comparison video since I am looking to get back into painting again and have found a stockist in BC, since I am based in Alberta. Question - what did you use to spot prime? Thank you
With misting you would have raised the grain. You should have "knocked it back" by resanding with 180 and then wipe with tack cloth.
Not all grain raises terribly but thank you yes I always sand smooth if necessary and with much finer than 180 for sure
Hi! I have a dark stained dresser and a white painted dresser that I would like make the same color with gel stain 'simply white' gel stain by Minwax. What do I need to do to ensure the dressers result in the same color?
Does the weather wash lose its stringht after a few years ?
I’m sorry, but I love that song😄
Kate Bush!!!
So what do you do if you are doing a countertop up against an oven, sink, or wall?
Looks fake
Thank you very much for this review. I’d love to refinish a dining room table with this paint ~ the table is real wood (maple I think), already painted (not by me, it came painted). I am wondering if I should prime any areas where I plan on painting and if yes, what primer do you suggest? I’m in the US so can get anything available in the states. I want it to be durable as it’ll be a kitchen table (chairs hitting the base, plates, cups on the surface once fully cured). I can get this paint local so I’d love to try it. Thank you.
Yes I would clean, scuff sand and prime - I love Lilly moon paint stainblocking primer, I like rustoleum 3 n 1 sandable filler primer, melange stain blocker and there are many more that will work just fine too 😀
